If you have chosen to follow Jesus and have Him lead your life, your next step is to be baptized in water.
There are a few reasons why we get baptized:
(1) It's what Jesus did (Mark 1:9).
(2) It's what Jesus asks us to do (Matthew 28:19-20).
(3) Getting baptized tells others that you are a follower of Jesus (Acts 18:8, 1 John 2:3).

Getting baptized is a significant next step because it outwardly demonstrates what Jesus has done inside of our hearts. When Jesus died on the cross and rose again three days later, it was so that we could be forgiven of our sins and have a new life with God. When we are baptized in water, we are communicating that our old life of sin is dead and as we come out of the water, we are communicating that you are living a new life following Jesus.
