What if the faith we carry today was built on the prayers of people we never met? That is the powerful reality at the heart of this message, rooted in Hebrews 12:1-2. The writer of Hebrews calls us to recognize that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, ordinary people who ran their race faithfully and made it possible for us to run ours. God's work is always bigger than one generation. We drink from wells we did not dig. We stand on floors that were other people's ceilings. And now it is our turn to build something that the next generation can stand on.
This message invites us to look back with gratitude rather than nostalgia, to honor the faithfulness of those who came before us without being anchored to the past. There is a crucial difference between the two. Gratitude says thank you for what God did then. Nostalgia says I wish it were still that way. One propels us forward. The other holds us back. As we reflect on the people who helped shape our faith, we are reminded that God uses imperfect but faithful people to do extraordinary things across generations.
